Psalm 92 - Sing for Joy

Psalm 92:1-7, 11-15 NIV
It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name,
 O Most High, proclaiming your love in the morning
 and your faithfulness at night,
 to the music of the ten-stringed lyre and the melody of the harp.
For you make me glad by your deeds, Lord;
 I sing for joy at what your hands have done.
How great are your works, Lord, how profound your thoughts!

Senseless people do not know, fools do not understand,
 that though the wicked spring up like grass and all evildoers flourish,
 they will be destroyed forever.
My eyes have seen the defeat of my adversaries;
 my ears have heard the rout of my wicked foes.

The righteous will flourish like a palm tree,
 they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon;
 planted in the house of the Lord,
 they will flourish in the courts of our God.
They will still bear fruit in old age,
 they will stay fresh and green, proclaiming,
 “The Lord is upright; he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him.”

Psalm 92 is a psalm of praise acknowledging how good it is to worship God with song. It's a beautiful thing when God touches the hearts of His worshipers and every voice is lifted in joyful singing, giving their hearts to God in thanksgiving.
Specifically the psalm praises God for conquering the enemies of Israel. It seems to me to be a prayer fit for a king. He has seen what God can do. He has watched his enemies turn and flee during the battle. But this can be a for any individual, for we all face enemies or some sort in life. This could be the song of a cancer survivor. This could be the prayer of a mother who finally got her children and herself away from an abusive spouse. Praise the Lord in song for His deliverance.
The psalmist says fools don't understand that the wicked and evil people endure only a short time, while the righteous are blessed with long life and vitality. The wicked may prosper, but it's only a flash in the pan, here today and gone tomorrow. The righteous are enduring, rooted in God's house, with strength and fruitfulness.
This psalm is much like Psalm 1 in its very simplistic message. There are two ways to go through life, the way of the righteous that leads to life or the way of the wicked that leads to death.
So join the worshipers tomorrow on the Lord's Day. Give your heart in praise. Marvel at all the good God has done and is doing. Hope in God's promises for our future. And sing with joy in the Lord.
